I did nothing this morning. I know it seems like a waste but I just didn’t have the energy to get up. I hung around and did my readings and tried so hard to catch up on this blog. It seems that every time I get a hold on it I lose track again.
Tonight, everyone went to the Athletics but me, Lauren, Niav, Steven (all at Weightlifting) Lucas and Lester. Everyone else got to go to the Bird’s Nest to watch the Men’s 100m Final. POOO! Hopefully I get the chance to see something after I’ve finished work, because at this rate I will have seen a lot of Weightlifting but not much else. I guess I kind of take that much for granted though, as a lot of people don’t even get the chance to see their sport live.
Tonight, as a consolation, we watched the Women’s +75kg category in which Deborah Lovely broke the Australian women’s Snatch record with 113kg and came a respectable eighth place. Ele Opeloge from Samoa who was one of the first people I interviewed was in this category and was so close to winning Samoa’s first Olympic medal. It was unfortunate that she missed her last Clean and Jerk and ended up with fourth instead. Maybe next time though! The winner was the smaller Korean woman who clean sweeped all the World Records and even beat the 169kg Ukrainian named Olga! Needless to say it was a fun category to watch. Too bad that on the way home our taxi driver was an idiot and drove around in a circle before finally finding his way 20 yuan later! Icecream in bed made up for that though.
