Today I went to the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube with Lester, Ngaio, Niav and Steven. We took a cab to the subway and then took the subway line 10 (the one which my manager Jane has done the English voiceover for) to the Olympic line and changed to get to the Olympic Green. The security checks were crazy – to get on the Olympic line you had to line up and go through the full check with bag scanners and metal detectors. But as we were lining up, Lester noticed a dodgy cardboard sign with the words “SPECIAL PASSAGE” written on it and because we consider ourselves special we thought we’d give it a go. Turned out to be an accreditation check in, and we got through without needing our Olympic Green tickets. (Did I forget to mention you need tickets just to get inside the Olympic Green – and they are for a certain time on a certain day. Crazy). We spent the whole morning walking around the Olympic Green just taking pictures and looking around, the architecture of those two buildings is absolutely amazing. I am definitely going to have to go back at night to see them lit up.
In the afternoon I had to go to work at 4:30 for my second last night. I can’t believe I’m almost at the end. I’m sad and happy all at the same time, mainly because I thought it would never end and now I am friends with all these people and I have to say goodbye. Tonight was the 105kg category and I had fun talking to some other Novacastrians that we randomly found in the crowd. They were great fun, and I think they confused the Chinese because they were cheering for everyone, not just one person! I don’t think they understand that concept, because they rarely cheer “JIA YOU” for anyone else but China haha! Ah well, one step at a time.
